Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you might want to know about The Githima Project — who we serve, how to give, and how to walk alongside the children of Mukarara. Can’t find your answer? Email us.
The Githima Project is a charitable initiative building a special-needs school and advocacy community for children with disabilities aged 0–17 in Mukarara, Nyeri County, Kenya. Our heart is captured in three words: Equal. Included. Loved.
The campus is being built in Mukarara, Nyeri County, in the central highlands of Kenya. We also maintain a US correspondence address at P.O. Box 1141, Lake Elsinore, CA 92531 for diaspora supporters.
We serve children with disabilities from birth to age 17 and their families, alongside community advocacy to change how disability is understood and embraced in the region.
For US donors, The Githima Project (Githima Inc.) is a tax-exempt public charity under section 509(a)(2) of the US Internal Revenue Code, so donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. In Kenya, Githima Inc. is registered as a charitable trust. Our EIN will be published on the donate page as soon as it is issued.
You can give securely by card (one-time or monthly) through our donate page, or, if you are in Kenya, with M-Pesa. Bank transfers and planned gifts can be arranged by emailing the founders directly.
Yes. Our donate page shows M-Pesa Paybill instructions using the account reference GITHIMA. If the Paybill is still being activated, you can message the team on WhatsApp and we will send you the details right away.
The land is secured, the perimeter wall and entrance gate are complete, and electricity and water are on site. A temporary kitchen-and-meeting structure is in use. The permanent campus — classrooms, dormitories, kitchen, and therapy spaces — is fully designed and approved, and ready to build when funding lands.
You can partner with us as a company, NGO, or church; volunteer your time and skills; refer a child who needs support; or simply follow the journey and share it. Every form of walking alongside the work matters.
